Running Away

Scared of what you might
find around the next corner.
But running farther and even
farther than ever before.

Not stopping to say hello or even
to take a small rest.
But farther and farther into
the dark world not knowing
where to go.

Suddenly you find that you must
turn back and head for home.
And face the tragedy that you
bestowed upon yourself.

Hitching a ride here and there making
it the best you know how.
finally you are there and find that
everything is better than before.

This is a poem that I wrote while in High School, years ago.  It was a writing in response to a story we read as a class called Nights Away From Home.
